HOW TO APPLY FOR A SACATAR RESIDENCY

There are currently upcoming deadlines for Fellowships offered in partnership with the following institutions:

Africa Centre: Based in South Africa, Africa Centre annually awards artists in all disciplines and from across Africa through its own selection process. The deadline is September 30, 2015: www.africacentre.net

EAV Parque Lage: Students of the Parque Lage Art School in Rio de Janeiro annually compete for a Sacatar Residency Fellowship. The deadline is August 27, 2015: www.eavparquelage.rj.gov.br

FUNCEB: The Fundação Cultural do Estado da Bahia annually awards a residency to a writer living in Bahia, Brazil. The deadline is September 20, 2015: www.fundacaocultural.ba.gov.br


The most recent deadline for  applications was April 15, 2015. If you applied in April, please note that the evaluation of candidates is taking longer than anticipated.  

We will announce the results in late August 2015, when we will begin to interview the semi-finalists.  We conduct interviews with all semifinalists before scheduling.   Through this Open Selection Process, we will offer approximately 30 two-month residency Fellowships between October 2015, throughout 2016 and  through the first half of 2017.

Former Fellows may not apply.  We will continue to offer alternate ways that former Fellows may return to pursue additional work at Sacatar.  We will write our former Fellows directly with these opportunities.

 

Following are a list of the organizations that provide residency Fellowships in partnership with the Instituto Sacatar and/or the Sacatar Foundation. If you go to the PARTNERS / DONORS page, you can find the list of former and future artists awarded through these partnership programs.

  • Africa Centre, South Africa, awarded annually to African artists of all disciplines through Africa Centre's own competitive selection process: www.africacentre.net 
     
  • PIPA (Prêmio Investidor Profissional de Arte): Since 2010, PIPA makes cash and residency awards to Brazilian artists.  A jury awards the Sacatar Residency to one of five artists previously selected online by the voting public.  The first Sacatar/PIPA residency will take place in March 2015. We anticipate that the program will repeat annually. www.pipa.org.br
     
  • Bienal do Mercosul: Fellowships awarded to artists previously selected to participate in the Mercosul biennale --organized by the Fundação Bienal de Artes Visuais do Mercosul-- in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil: 9bienalmercosul.art.br
     

  • UNESCO-Aschberg Bursaries for Artists Programme: three bursaries are awarded annually, in visual arts, creative writing (in any language) and music composition, for artists between the ages of 25 and 35, born and living in Africa, Asia, Russia, the former Soviet Republics, the Middle East, Australia, New Zealand and/or the Pacific Islands. This program is currently on hold but it should resume in 2016: www.unesco.org/culture/aschberg
